Dale MacDonald

Associate Dean of Research and Creative Technologies, University of Texas at Dallas School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication
A Dallas, Texas native, Dale MacDonald brings his talents as an artist, designer, and creative technologist to ATEC. His work has been showcased in theaters, galleries, public spaces, and science and technology centers throughout New York, California, Mexico, England, Singapore, and India. Special interests range from phenomenology of light to body-scale interaction techniques. During his tenure at Xerox PARC, MacDonald worked on the fabrication of large-area electronics including the world’s first 300 ppi LCD, ethnographies of electronics design, big documents in public, and Experiments in the Future of Reading (a 17-exhibit show which toured nationally). Through the PARC Artists In-Residence program, he became a member of the long-term artistic collaboration Crane-MacDonald-Minneman-Winet. In 2002, he co-founded Onomy Labs, a design/build studio for signature interactives, and served as its CFO and Director of Software. MacDonald transitioned to academia in 2011, serving as Technical Director at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Innovation Lab and Director of Creative Technologies for the School of Media Studies at The New School in New York.
